The schooner Suva is a local treasure—a 1925 pilothouse schooner that proudly calls Coupeville home. Operated entirely by our dedicated volunteer crew and docents, she keeps Whidbey’s maritime history alive on the Salish Sea.

Maintaining a Coast Guard-inspected passenger vessel that is over a century old requires significant resources. Your gift directly funds the preservation work, electrical and safety system upgrades, and educational outreach necessary to keep the Suva sailing.

The Whidbey Island Maritime Heritage Foundation (WIMHF) is powered solely by volunteers. Because income from public sails covers only a small fraction of our operational costs, your support is vital. 100% of your contribution will go toward:
  • Advancing our Education Program: Providing a floating classroom for elementary, middle, and high school students.
  • Supporting Community Outreach: Connecting the public to the living traditions and maritime culture of Whidbey Island.
  • Preserving PNW History: Keeping this majestic, century-old vessel sailing gracefully in the Puget Sound.
  • Ongoing Maintenance: Supporting the essential restoration and upkeep of this nationally recognized historic schooner.
